Self-taught designer Neisha La Touche is bringing awareness to the Caribbean’s fashion presence on an international scale. A Grenada native whose atelier is based in St. George’s, La Touche officially launched her fashion label, Silhouette, in 2011. That year, her first collection was shown to the public at the Visions of Spice Fashion Show.
In addition to designing, La Touche has held numerous titles in the fashion biz over the years displaying her obvious talents. She was a beauty and fashion coordinator for SpiceVibes.com, as well as an image consultant and stylist. Currently, La Touche is Vice President of the Grenada Association of Fashion Designers, an NGO dedicated to increasing the visibility of Greenz designers. She is also the organizer of I AM FASHION, an annual fashion event that allows local and regional designers the opportunity to display their talents. The event was first conceived as a fundraiser to help La Touche get to Guyana’s Model Search and Designers Portfolio in 2011, but has expanded to showcase the distinct fashion the Caribbean has to offer.
True to the name she’s given her label, La Touche’s style is one she describes as modern, easy to wear and chic. Relying heavily on draping, La Touche’s designs are distinctly feminine and embrace vibrant colors and hues. To date, she has designed everything from outfits for mas bands to custom wedding dresses, including one for radio personality Aruna Neptune, as well as suits and swimwear. Her clothes have rocked runways in the U.S. and throughout the Caribbean.
Neisha draws inspiration from fellow Caribbean designers Claudia Pegus, Heather Jones, Peter Elias and Sonia Noel. Last year, she was chosen as Caribbean Fashion Designer of the Week by Dy Muñeca, the Caribbean Fashion Spot highlighting all things fashion and design.
